The final two months of the U.K. tour of the Tony-winning musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, which opened at the Richmond Theatre March 27 and was scheduled to run through August 5, has been canceled.

The production played its final performance June 2 at the Theatre Royal Bath.

“We are extremely sorry to have to announce the cancellation of the UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie. This has been caused by lower ticket sales than expected, which in turn has put the company producing the show in financial difficulties and they are no longer able to continue with the tour,” a statement from the producers reads. “Our thanks go out to the brilliant cast of the show, who sang and danced their hearts out to bring Thoroughly Modern Millie to audiences all over the country. Sadly, and regretfully, the show is now canceled. We extremely sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this cancellation will cause everyone who was planning on seeing the show.”

British stage and screen favorite Hayley Tamaddon, known for her work as Del Dingle in Emmerdale and Andrea Beckett in Coronation Street and for winning the fifth season of ITV1’s Dancing on Ice, portrayed Millie Dilmount, the Kansas girl determined to make it big in New York City.

Tamaddon was joined by Lucas Rush (American Idiot, Cabaret) as Mrs. Meers, Michael Colbourne as Jimmy Smith, Richard Meek as Trevor Graydon, Nicola Blackman as Muzzy van Hossmere, Lisa Bridge as Miss Dorothy, Guy Salim as Ching Ho, Patrick Jeremy as Bun Foo, and Natalie Spriggs as Miss Flannery, plus Laura Ellis, Annie Guy, Emma Lloyd, Millie O’Connell, Patrick George, Scott Norton, and Tom Summers.

Racky Plews directed and choreographed with musical direction by Rob Wicks.

Based on the 1967 film, the musical features a book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, music by Jeanine Tesori, and lyrics by Scanlan.

The tour was presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe) Limited.

Sutton Foster created the title role in the original Broadway production, winning her first Tony Award for her performance. (Foster and many of her original costars recently took part in a sold-out reunion concert to benefit The Actors Fund.
