The incident took place at Brightland school in Lucknow’s Triveni Nagar on Tuesday.

A Class 1 boy is recuperating at a Lucknow hospital after a senior girl student attacked him with a knife on their school premises, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place a day earlier at the Bright Land School in Aliganj’s Triveni Nagar locality. The victim, six-year-old Hrithik Sharma, told his parents that the girl took him inside a bathroom and attacked him.

Hrithik, who suffered injuries on the chest, abdomen and left eye, is stated to be stable but has been placed under observation at KGMU’s trauma centre for 48 hours.

According to police, Hrithik told his parents and the school authorities that a girl with “boy cut hair style” took him to the bathroom on the second floor of the school building when he was going to attend morning assembly around 10.20am. She fled after locking him inside.

School director Rachit Manas said the incident came to light when the school’s discipline in-charge, Amit Chauhan, went on his morning round to check if every student is out for assembly. He said Chauhan heard the boy screaming inside a locked bathroom.

“We immediately rushed the boy to a nearby hospital, from where he was referred to KGMU’s trauma centre,” said Manas. “The boy’s parents were also immediately informed.”

Hrithik’s father Rajesh Sharma is a class 4 employee at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court.

Sharma has asked the school to identify the girl as soon as possible as her presence could harm other children too.

Additional superintendent of police (ASP), trans-Gomti, Harendra Kumar said the boy had identified a girl but she denied attacking him and so help from counsellors was being sought to talk to girls with a similar appearance.

Though the incident took place on Tuesday, the school administration reported the matter to police only the next day after the victim’s picture was shared on social media.
